Richmond's The Veil Brewing Co. plans to open a brewpub in Norfolk
September 04, 2018
The Veil Brewing Co. brewery in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition is planning to open a location in Norfolk, joining a handful of local craft breweries that have branched out to other locations in the state.
Plans call for opening the new brewpub in Norfolk’s Railroad District in late spring, the brewery posted on its Facebook page Monday. The new space will be located in the former Norfolk Chop House location on Colonial Avenue.
“With some cooperation from the city of Norfolk, we hope to open a modern brewpub in the new and upcoming Railroad District of Norfolk,” the Facebook post said.
The Veil opened its original brewery at 1301 Roseneath Road in April 2016.
The new chef at the brewpub, according to the Facebook post, will be Ian Hock of Codex, a farm-to-table eatery in the Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk.
Before opening its doors next year, The Veil plans a preview event in November. “For three days straight, we’ll be pouring our beer (including some super special kegs) along with guest beers from our friends Trillium, Monkish and Other Half. We plan to have at least one cider available and a few wines also,” the post said.
The preview will take place Nov. 2-4 at the Enjoy event space at 429 Granby St. in Norfolk.
“We’re so stoked and hope you can come hang with us,” the post said.
Representatives from the brewery declined to comment Tuesday.
A Norfolk spokeswoman said the city is not providing any incentives to The Veil.
