A new craft brewery has opened in Richmond’s Manchester area.
Basic City Beer Co. opened with limited hours last weekend and plans to expand its hours soon. The brewery is in the former Twisted Ales location at 212 W. Sixth St.
It is the second location for Basic City Beer. Its brewery in Waynesboro was co-founded two years ago by brothers Bart, Chris and Joe Lanman.
The brothers announced in July that they had purchased the brewing equipment and taken over the lease from Twisted Ales, which closed after its owner accepted a new job in Raleigh, N.C.
Basic City is near Legend Brewing Co., the Richmond area’s oldest craft brewery. “We are excited to be in neighborhood with a pioneer of craft brew,” said Bart Lanman. “We are talking with them about doing a collaboration.”
For now, Basic City is serving beers made in its Waynesboro Brewery while waiting for its full licensing. It is operating the Richmond location under an ABC banquet license.
